    These are also Hexavalent Zinc Yellow Plated on the outside,
    which refers to the color of the
    chromate
    that is applied after
    zinc
    has been deposited on to the surface.
    Yellow chromate
    prevents the
    zinc
    from corroding and zinc protects the steel from rusting, Together they increase the overall protection of the finish. (The finished product has a surface color that is slightly yellow with iridescent tones of the rainbow.)
